Sumi by Pierre Frey — F3771
A design by Pierre Frey. Sumi is a fabric that feels composed and softly animated, with an ivory and light beige palette broken by an irregular abstract motif. The bouclé surface lends it a gentle relief, while the jacquard drawing gives the pattern a measured structure that reads with subtle distinction rather than contrast. There is a calm, contemporary restraint here, but also a certain warmth in the way the fibres hold light. The blend of cotton, viscose, polyester, linen and polyamide gives the cloth a layered material presence, neither too crisp nor too loose in character. With its 137 cm width and vertical repeat of 68 cm, Sumi can be considered thoughtfully for moderate use, especially where texture is meant to bring atmosphere as much as pattern. It may sit well on an occasional chair, a soft headboard, or decorative cushions, where its surface can be appreciated at close range and its drawing allowed to settle naturally into the room.
